Thyroid Gland Surgery
Thyroid gland surgery is a medical procedure performed to treat conditions affecting the thyroid, a butterfly-shaped gland located in the neck that regulates metabolism through hormone production. Surgery is typically recommended for thyroid nodules, goiter (enlarged thyroid), hyperthyroidism, or thyroid cancer, particularly when other treatments are ineffective or when there is a risk of malignancy.
The most common types of thyroid surgery include lobectomy, which removes one lobe of the thyroid, total thyroidectomy, which removes the entire gland, and subtotal thyroidectomy, which removes a portion of the gland.
